SBOrganization collaborates with individuals across all age groups and diverse backgrounds to inspire, empower, and educate them towards becoming active and contributing members of society. Our efforts encompass a broad spectrum of initiatives aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by Afghans today. Embracing inclusivity by catering to the needs of men, women, youth, and children, we foster optimism that our vision of a peaceful, drug-free, and prosperous Afghanistan will materialize.
Our inaugural endeavor, supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2003, in Gardez, Paktia. Under the theme “Drugs: Treatment Works,” SBOrganization established its first drug treatment center, a residential facility for men, supplemented by home-based care for women, inaugurated in Gardez in March 2004. Despite challenges, with opium persisting as Afghanistan’s predominant cash crop and a staggering number of Afghans, spanning from toddlers to the elderly, grappling with addiction to heroin and other narcotics, SBOrganization network of treatment centers extends nationwide, catering to men, women, adolescents, and children alike. We conduct community-oriented educational campaigns to raise awareness about the perils of drug abuse, leveraging the support of educators, religious leaders, and community elders to discourage the use, production, and trafficking of illicit substances. Our commitment to anti-drug advocacy permeates all facets of our operations, from treatment services providing counseling to the families of recovering addicts to outreach programs encouraging communities to embrace returning individuals on the path to recovery.
Central to our mission is civic education, epitomized by our community empowerment and reintegration initiative in 2004, funded by Save the Children, Sweden/Norway (SCS/N), which engaged 160 village councils, equally divided by gender, in Laghman and Nangarhar provinces. Over a decade later, these councils persist in addressing the core issues of political revitalization, national cohesion, and reconstruction endeavors. Furthermore, SBOrganization’s collaboration with traditional governance structures and governmental agencies underscores our commitment to grassroots development, particularly in rural areas, fostering partnerships with local leaders to advance peacebuilding, education, anti-corruption measures, and drug enforcement efforts. Through sustained engagement with maliks, influential figures in local governance, SBOrganization has facilitated the formation of the National Maliks Association, enabling their involvement in security initiatives in volatile regions where our interventions are most needed.
In our pursuit of human rights, particularly women’s rights within the framework of Islamic principles, we work closely with maliks and religious leaders, including mullahs, pivotal figures in village life. By leveraging the influence of these traditional leadership structures and collaborating with district and central government authorities, SBOrganization has empowered rural and urban women to actively contribute to nation-building endeavors.
Recognizing education as a cornerstone of progress in Afghanistan, our recent initiatives, such as those funded by Save the Children International (SCI) in Uruzgan Province, have focused on establishing community-based schools and training young women as primary schoolteachers. Despite challenges, our commitment to advancing education remains unwavering, as we continue to strive towards a brighter future for all Afghans.
